Would you like to borrow some tools to help you wash or paint your house in this perfect summer weather?

Do we have a deal for you!

Thanks to a generous donation by COSMO Mill in Cosmopolis, we have lots of equipment we can loan out free of charge.

So, if you are planning to wash or paint your house, and would like to borrow our pump sprayers and long-handled brushes for the job, give us a call. We also have tools such as scrapers, wire brushes, drop clothes, buckets and ladder stand-off attachments for safety.

In fact, just last week we gathered the tools into multiple kits to make it even easier for folks to borrow them.

In this climate, most houses need to be painted every four to seven years. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – a good paint job not only approves the appearance of your home and your neighborhood, it also protects your house from mold, rot and bug infestations, lengthening the life of your major investment!

In 1981 a fledgling organization called Aberdeen Neighborhood Housing Services was formed to help restore and revitalize areas in Aberdeen.

Thirty-six years later and now with a bigger scope to serve all of this county, we do business as NeighborWorks of Grays Harbor.

Lately we are harkening back to the old days of this organization as we conduct a “Community Impact Measurement” survey to take a close look at both the objective realities of a South Aberdeen neighborhood as well as how residents feel about their neighborhood.

APPLES TO APPLES

NeighborWorks of Grays Harbor is a non-profit organization and a charter member of NeighborWorks America. We are one of 245 organizations in the country working to strengthen our community neighborhoods.

Our mission is to “develop partnerships in the community between business, government, and residents to create safe and affordable housing opportunities for all residents of Grays Harbor County.”

In the last few years, our...

Here at NeighborWorks of Grays Harbor we’re not just interested in helping others buy, fix-up or rent a home, we like to encourage the overall health of our community – including the economic health!

That’s why we were so encouraged recently when the 2017 Grays Harbor Economic Vitality Index was released.

This document is compiled by the staff at Greater Grays Harbor, Inc., our regional Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Council and Visitor Information Center all rolled into one.

CEO Dru Garson took us on a little tour through the numbers recently. And, to
sum it up, overall the right numbers are up and the right numbers are down!

UNEMPLOYMENT DOWN

“The unemployment rate is an important indicator of economic well-being,” Garson said. It is the percentage of the total labor force that is unemployed but actively seeking employment and willing to work.

Grays Harbor County has one of the higher unemployment rates in the state, but the good news is it’s on its way down!

Those of us who call Grays Harbor home know what kinds of things we love about living here.

Now others are discovering some of those things too!

Not only do housing statistics show that more people are making Grays Harbor their home, but there’s also been an uptick of people discovering what a great place this is to visit.

This week we want to talk about Grays Harbor County as a tourist destination and just how much tourism positively impacts our lives.

 OUR HOME IS TOURIST HAVEN

The latest figures available indicate that Grays Harbor County saw a 9.4 percent increase in tourism from 2015 to 2016, according to Mike Bruner, director of the Grays Harbor County Tourism Office.

That is approximately three times the increase in tourism the state had during the same period.

Those numbers come from looking at the money brought in by the hotel/motel tax in the county. And the county’s numbers don’t include Westport an...
